ABOUT

Hi I'm Sera, the face behind My Keeper.
I currently live in Auckland NZ, but grew up in a beautiful small town called Waihi Beach in the Bay of Plenty and still call this home.

Although I initially pursued teaching at university, my passion for creating my own brand never waned. In 2012, during my first year of university, I decided to make a small collection of handmade garments and share them on my Facebook page. The response was overwhelming, with all 10 garments selling out within minutes. Throughout my university years, I continued to create and sell garments through Facebook as a way to earn extra money.
Nowadays, I work as a full-time teacher while also running My Keeper on the side. It makes for a rather hectic life, but if I am honest, I wouldn't have it any other way. The joy that I get from teaching a classroom full of 12 year old's is like no other, and although at times the workload in combination with My Keeper can be a lot to handle, I just LOVE IT!

Believe it or not, in high school I failed NCEA textiles. Did that stop me. No, no it did not. From this point forward, I know that no matter what you want to do in life, you can do it! So trust me when I say, if you can't sew but want to sew, just start.

The inspiration behind My Keeper is that memories can be triggered by simple things like the scent of a flower or a cherished quilt made by your grandmother. Quilts, in particular, have the power to hold precious memories as the years go by. My Keeper is a collection of 60's-inspired wearable charms crafted from nostalgic fabrics, using patchwork techniques and hours of love. These unique garments will evoke fond memories of dancing through the night, strolling barefoot on the beach, and sharing laughter with loved ones. You can cherish your My Keeper forever, pass it down to your children, or rediscover your love for it years later.
Most of our garments are one-of-a-kind treasures, representing the idea that each piece is a true "keeper." I sincerely hope that you adore my garments as much as I do!
In recent years, My Keeper has transformed into a brand that prioritises sustainable and ethical principles. While I acknowledge I am not flawless, I am committed to doing our utmost to contribute to the well-being of both the planet and our people.
The majority of My Keeper is made here in NZ by myself or my employees who are paid $32.50 per hour. My active and swim are made in Bali and it took me sometime to find a supplier who I was happy with in terms of their ethics. After months of research I found one who aligns with my philosophy - they pay their workers well, they get good breaks/holidays, and they also use sustainable practices when it comes to their fabrics.

I’m a small business, with a BIG heart who cares about the impact of my business on the earth & on other humans.
